The students and I talked about Goodbye, Jake and our feelings
when we lose someone we love. The children had many interesting
questions for me about being an author, how to write a book, and the
people and animals in the story.

The class made a Memory Tree. Each
student put a leaf or photo on the tree for a special animal companion
or person who had died. As they attached
their photos and leaves, they shared wonderful memories.

The Memory Tree was filled with funny, loving and happy stories.
Thank you to Ms. Aparici, the Chaparral Elementary
